01Why this vertical differs

Revenue is earned shipment by shipment across carriers, lanes and legs, and the cost of a movement often arrives weeks after the customer has been invoiced, so accruals and settlement carry the margin. Assets are fleets with their own maintenance and depreciation, fuel and surcharges move prices between quote and invoice, and each border adds a customs and tax treatment of its own.

Grouped by the company sizes each vendor states a fit for; a system whose range spans two bands appears in both. Alphabetical within a band. Absence means the vendor does not lead with this vertical, not that the system is unsuitable.

03Modules that matter here

The modules the note above names as decisive, with the questions Stackmark puts to a vendor about each in a demonstration. Below them, how many of the vertical’s 1 systems document every module.

Asset management

  1. Q1Can one asset carry separate books for statutory, tax and IFRS depreciation, and post each to a different ledger?
  2. Q2How is a mid-life change handled — impairment, revaluation, a revised useful life — and does it restate prior periods or only adjust forward?
  3. Q3Can construction-in-progress accumulate costs from purchase orders and project time before it is capitalised?
  4. Q4Does the maintenance side exist as a real module here, or is asset management only the finance register?

Field service

  1. Q1Does the scheduler account for technician skills, certifications and parts availability, or only for their calendar?
  2. Q2Is a van or truck a real stock location, so a part used on a job relieves inventory and costs the work order?
  3. Q3How are contract work, warranty work and billable work separated on the same job, and what reaches the invoice?
  4. Q4What can a technician do on the mobile app with no signal at the site, and what happens when they reconnect?

Financial management

  1. Q1How many legal entities can post to a shared chart of accounts, and what happens when two entities need different local charts?
  2. Q2Is intercompany elimination built in, or does it happen in a spreadsheet outside the system?
  3. Q3What does a period close actually involve — which steps are automated and which are still manual checklists?
  4. Q4Can a closed period be reopened, and what audit trail does that leave?

Supply chain management

  1. Q1What does the demand forecast run on — history, seasonality, promotions, a planner's override — and can we see why it proposed a given number?
  2. Q2Can replenishment plan across several sites at once and move stock between them rather than buying again?
  3. Q3How is landed cost — freight, duty, insurance — apportioned onto item cost, and at what point in the receipt?
  4. Q4Can suppliers see and confirm delivery schedules in a portal, or does that stay in email?
